 ग्रह गोचर की दशा इस प्रकार अवस्थित हो, कि मनुष्य की आंतरिक ऊर्जा यानी शिव तत्व का संचरण स्वयं ही ऊर्ध्व शिखर की ओर होने लगे और सहस्त्रार यानी शक्ति पुंज से मिलन हेतु लालायित हो उठे, ऐसी ग्रह गोचर की रात्रि को ही महाशिवरात्रि कहते है, जिसमें शिव शक्ति का मिलन निहित है।
