"पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार भगवान धन्वंतरि समुंद्र मंथन से अमृत कलश लेकर जिस दिन प्रकट हुए उसे ही धनतेरस कहते है,भगवान महावीर इसी दिन ध्यान द्वारा योग निरोध में गए थे,इसी कारण इसे ध्यान तेरस भी कहते है,भारत सरकार ने इसे राष्ट्रीय आयुर्वेद दिवस के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय लिया है।"
