 "शिव प्राप्ति हेतु, माता पार्वती द्वारा कठोर तप करने पर, माता का सम्पूर्ण शरीर श्याम वर्ण हो गया था, माता के कठोर तप से प्रसन्न हो देवाधिपति महादेव ने माता के शरीर को पुनः कांतिमय एवम् गौर वर्ण बना दिया, माता के इस मोहक रूप महागौरी की उपासना नवरात्रि में अष्टमी तिथि को की जाती है।"

"In order to attain Shiva, Mother Parvati did hard penance, the entire body of the mother had become dark complexion, Devadhipati Mahadev, pleased with the harsh austerity of the mother, made the mother's body again radiant and bright, Mahagauri in this enticing form of the mother. It is worshiped on Ashtami Tithi in Navratri."
